emilyfitzsimmons-low-resA true team player, Sr. Marketing + Business Writer Emily FitzSimmons works with multi-disciplinary experts across ISG to craft proposals, blogs, and other marketing collateral that communicates ISG’s key values. When she is not advocating on behalf of her team at ISG, you can find her cheering on her beloved Gusties of her alma mater, Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, where she played basketball on the women’s team.

Emily enjoys mentoring those within the marketing group, and is a key asset to the firm, even serving as a co-chair for the ESOP Committee. Let’s learn more about Emily and what keeps her energized and excited to work in ISG’s marketing department.

Marketing is a loaded word. What does it mean to you, and what drives you in this field?

I think most people get hung up on the "sell" side of marketing. Marketing is really more about the field's core responsibility of recognizing opportunities where your firms's services or products can be useful, and  for me, crafting a messaging strategy that helps connect those opportunities for potential industry partners and clients. Depending on the partner, that can be anything from a proposal to an ad, strategic event, blog post, etc., and I enjoy working with ISG market leaders and our internal marketing team to determine the right approach that positively complements defined strategies.

What inspires and motivates you?

What inspires me most at ISG is all of the synergistic elements of the architecture, engineering, planning, and environmental services industry. There's always so much to learn, and that also plays into what motivates me most as a professional and person overall: curiosity.

There are a lot of great writers out there – who are a few of your favs?

The history nerd in me screams Dan Brown or Ken Burns, but I'm also a pretty big fan of the unsung heroes of investigative reporting and podcasts (easy to forget documentaries and podcasts take writers, too!).

What’s one random fact about yourself that may come as a shock?

I can count to ten in six languages, but I wouldn't say I'm fluent in any!

Cake or ice cream?

Cake WITH ice cream, or ice cream cake. We're all better together. :)

One of the voices behind ISG's messaging strategies, Emily writes (and shares donuts with her colleagues) in ISG's Minneapolis office location.
